The artist Leonard Parent Basque, simply known as Basque, was born in Trois-Pistoles, in the Lower St. Lawrence, in 1927. It was after having studied in philosophy and theology that Basque developed an interest in painting. A great expert in technical and historical level of painting which stands out in his works.

In 1957, he gave his first solo exhibition that soon generated interest in the public and the art world. In 1974, he took a difficult decision to settle down in Rimouski and live through his art.
All his life would be devoted for the arts community in the Rimouski where he also taught art for many years. Leonard always encouraged future generations. He also opened his own gallery the same year he moved to this town, helping beginners evolve. In addition to his experience, he left a large and varied corpus of work reflecting his long and successful career as a painter.
