Originally from Montréal, Richard Vaskelis began to demonstrate his artistic talent in both the areas of painting and drawing from a very early age onwards. Under the direction Arthur Lismer from the Group of Seven, he met Allan Harrison in 1980 who would become his mentor until 1986.

Between 1970 and 1990, he participated in many showings both as a soloist and in a group. From 2001, his career began a true ascendance beginning a series of exhibitions in Paris at the Carrousel of the Louvre and the National Art Society in 2001, in Vincennes in 2002 and at the Mairie de Paris (Paris City Hall) 2003. Chartres in 2004 and at the Mairie of Francourville (Francourville City Hall) in 2005.
