1937 - 2005
An important artist of Québec culture, André Bertounesque was born in 1937 in the town of Sainte-Livrade, France.
He arrived in Québec in the 1950 s and pursued a multitude of occupations before settling in on art. It was in 1963 that the clients of his hair-styling salon noticed his works decorating the walls. His treatment of landscapes and his mastery of light brought him rapid success. During the 70 s and 80 s works of portraits, nudes, and seaside scenes as well as his landscapes of Provence in France contributed to his notoriety and interest among collectors of art. His works on canvas harmonized the relation between man and nature due to his treatment of light and contrast.
His works hang in many prestigious galleries in Québec and are part of major collections the world over.
