Passionate about drawing, André Buist was already creating his own comic books when he was a kid.
Even though he later devoted himself to sports, teaching physical education, then pursuing his career at the government, he kept also developing his artistic abilities. Self-taught in many fields, he is not only a painter, but has also been an illustrator, cartoonist and sculptor (on wood and clay). During his career at the Government of Québec, he has illustrated several of his ministry’s publications. His caricatures have also been published in the sports page of the Nouvelliste journal.
His path has definitely influenced his painting, characterized by movement, color, and often by a soft touch. Since his art did not come from a specific movement, he likes to use several styles and techniques, and to develop series, like his hockey scenes. Among his prizes, he has received the prestigious Jean-Paul Ladouceur Prize at the Salon 2012 of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour.
