André Dufour was born on March 26th 1939 in the Charlevoix County in St-Étienne de la Malbaie. He received classic training at the Académie de Québec, went through his university studies at Université de Sherbrooke and his artistic studies at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal.

He first experimented with engraving and then focused on painting. The mediums he most commonly uses are pastels, gouache, watercolours and oils.
Since 1965, Dufour had a dozen of solo exhibits and almost as many group exhibits in different North American and European cities like New York and Paris.
He received a scholarship from the Cultural Affairs department from 1974 to 1976 and from the Canada Art Council in 1977. He also is one of the Founding Members of the Graff Studio.
