Born in Warwick in the Bois-Francs area (Québec), Gilbert Breton now resides in Victoriaville where he works as a professional artist. From 1960 to 1965, he studied at the Institut des Arts Appliqués de Montréal. In 1978 he started teaching painting in the Bois-Francs.

His paintings are notable for his rich and luminous colours, depicting landscapes of Saguenay and Charlevoix.

His pieces are part of private collections over the world as well as in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Québec National Museum of Fine Arts and the Laurier Museum in Victoriaville.
