Berthe Des Clayes was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1877. She studied at the Bushey School of Art in England and at the Académie Julian in Paris.

She studied for six years in London and then settled in Montréal, Canada, in 1912, where she lived until 1951. She developed fondness for Canadian landscapes, which she depicts in an impressionistic style using oil or watercolour. Des Clayes’ paintings can be found in major collections, among which those of the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec and the National Gallery of Canada.

She passed away at the age of 91 in the Devon county in England.
