Thomas H Garside was born in 1906 in Dukinfield (Great Britain). He arrives in Canada in 1914, where he starts studies at the Monument National under the teaching of Edmond Dyonnet and Adam Sherriff Scott. He will also take courses at the Association des arts of Montreal.

Mostly landscape painter, the regions of the Laurentides, Baie-Saint-Paul, Cape Cod, Murray Bay, Terre-Neuve and Estrie are those Garside prefers the most. Well known for his oil paintings, he made also few pastels. Member of the Royal Canadian Academy of arts, he dies in 1980.
