Chantale Jean was born in the Charlevoix region, in Malbaie, Québec. Her first solo exhibit was held in 1985. She is known for her depictions of animals and nature scenes.

Her paintings show her deep respect for nature and wildlife. She has mastered the art of giving a human side to her animals. She shows her love and commitment to nature with a touch of humour.

Her work is noticeable for the use of intense colours and relief. Her paintings are a mix of figurative and abstract depictions. They are like a theatrical scene which the animals inhabit in a masterly directed rhythm.
