In 1925, at the age of 14, he took a drawing course from Adrien Hébert and Johnny Johnstone. Five years later, he studied at l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Montreal with Felix Maillard and Joseph St-Charles. He also followed courses with Edmond Dyonnet and he undertook his studies in Boston. In 1956, he travelled to France and Italy in order to study and observe.

Joseph Giunta held his first exhibit with Marc-Aurèle Fortin in 1936. He participated, as well in group exhibits, which included the Coin des Arts, the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Montreal and at the Pavillon du Quebec, in Osaka Japan in 1970. The same year he took part in travelling exhibits in different galleries throughout Quebec.
