Robert Savignac was born in 1946 in Montreal and now lives in the Laurentides region. Savignac has always felt the need to paint. In his thirties, he began taking visual art classes at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal. After finishing his DEC, he continued his studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal. During that time, the artist remembered the pleasure he had while learning and working with materials. He quickly showed his colours, putting aside lengthy analyses and theories in favour of accessible and authentic work. He has been working on his art full-time since the 90s.
Savignac reinvents the city. His work, painted with oils, suggests places where greenery offers itself like an oasis. He gives the freshness and vitality of the country to the city and its closed-up spaces. In his deliberately inhabited paintings, it’s the trees and the flowers that are the main subjects. The artist wants to send a message of joy and optimism with his work, and it shows in an avalanche of colours where the flowers contrast with the green of the trees. A feeling of happiness comes from his paintings.
