Sylvie Cloutier was born in 1957 in St-Hyacinthe. Her love for painting and visual arts began at an early age. This love led her to pursue graduate studies in Fine Arts at Concordia University, UQAM and the University of Montreal. Her studies led her to teach in federal prisons at the college level and in visual arts at the secondary level. She has also been represented in galleries since 1985.

Sylvie Cloutier is inspired by her research on geometric form in space. Through her studies, her influences come from Riopelle's stencils, Paul Klee's colors, Braque's collages, as well as Kandinsky and all the other great Masters.
