Biography

Born in 1946 in Quebec City, Pierre Baril is a self-taught painter who has been dedicated to the visual arts since 1990. He works primarily in oil on canvas, a medium he favors for its richness and depth.

Over the years, he has explored various themes, including floral art, landscapes, and figures. However, urban scenes remain at the heart of his artistic practice. The streets, stairways, and historic façades of Old Quebec serve as his main source of inspiration, drawn from the architectural diversity, color, and distinctive atmosphere of his native city.

Pierre Baril is distinguished by his careful treatment of light and perspective, expressed through daytime and nighttime scenes across all four seasons. His brushwork reveals a rich and nuanced palette, where shadow effects and luminous contrasts create the warm, enveloping ambiance that defines his signature style.

Generous in sharing his knowledge, he taught oil painting in his studio for over fifteen years. He has participated in numerous symposiums and exhibitions since 1998 and notably served as honorary president of the 26th edition of the Arts et Reflets de Château-Richer symposium in 2018.
