Biography

In Richard Savoie’s pictorial universe, light bursts forth even in the heart of the night. The figures that inhabit his canvases turn their backs to the viewer, inviting them to become a witness to a fleeting moment, captured with rare sensitivity.

Savoie possesses this unique ability to seize fragments of life, ephemeral sensations, as if frozen in time. Where others might let these brief moments slip away, too fleeting to be expressed, he anchors us in a scene, sharing what he felt when laying colors on the canvas.

Born in 1959 in Moncton, this passionate artist lives on the edge of audacity.

For over twenty years, Savoie made his mark as a pastellist, establishing himself among the leading figures of Canadian figurative art. Where others might have capitalized on acquired success, he chose to reinvent himself. One day, he set aside his pastels and paper to dive into the demanding world of oil painting, taking an immense risk for such an established artist.

The gamble was bold, but the result is striking. From his very first works, Savoie mastered this new medium with astonishing ease. His already remarkable art reached new heights. Light, textures, depth — each canvas pulses with renewed intensity.

His snow glistens with purity, his stones seem tangible, his skies come alive before our eyes. Forests and streets take on a life of their own, carried by a vitality that reveals the evident joy with which he composes each scene.

What does the future hold for this exceptional artist? No one can say. But one thing is certain: Richard Savoie continues to push the boundaries of his art, with a passion and mastery that place him among the great masters of our time.
