Biography

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1937, Bedros Aslanian is an internationally acclaimed painter whose career spans several decades and continents. At the age of sixteen, he began his artistic training under the guidance of Professor Silvio Bicchi before graduating from the Alexandria School of Fine Arts in 1961. His exceptional talent was recognized early on when he was awarded First Prize at the Biennale of Mediterranean Countries in both 1958 and 1960.

In 1964, Aslanian held his first solo exhibition at Galerie Zygos in Athens, marking the beginning of a sustained international career. The following year, he settled in Montreal, a city that became one of his principal bases, while continuing to divide his time and artistic practice between Canada and Greece.

Over the course of his career, Bedros Aslanian has held more than thirty solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions worldwide, with presentations across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan. His work has been shown in prominent galleries and institutions in cities such as Athens, Paris, Florence, New York, Montreal, Chicago, and Thessaloniki.

Aslanian’s paintings are distinguished by bold, expressive brushwork and rich textures that lend his compositions depth and emotional resonance. Working in oil, tempera, and pastel, he has developed a distinctive visual language that draws from Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstraction. His favored subjects — cityscapes, villages, harbors, and boats — reflect a deep personal connection to the places that have shaped his life, from the narrow streets of the Greek islands to the expansive landscapes of Quebec.

His works are held in numerous private collections in Montreal, Athens, and Paris, and have been acquired by notable individuals and institutions, including Charles Aznavour, DIOR, L’ORÉAL, Lancôme, and international collectors.

Through a sensitive yet powerful approach to form and color, Bedros Aslanian captures the essence of people, places, and everyday objects, creating a body of work that is both timeless and deeply human.
