Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1910.

Awarded the Jessie Dow Prize (1951); drawing prize (2ed Biannual Canadian Art – 1957); 2nd prize in painting (Commonwealth Exhibition in Vancouver – 1957); represented Canada with Borduas, Riopelle and a few others at the Guggenheim in New York (1960); Prix Paul-Émile Borduas (1977); Arts Council grant (1958 et 1968); Philippe-Hébert prize of the SSJB (1986); honorary Doctorate of Concordia University (1987).

He published Plaidoyer pour L’Enfant (1947). Signatory of the manifesto, Prisme d’yeux. Le Collectionneur nos. 18 et 25. The book Bellefleur by Guy Robert (1978); Le Guide Vallée 1983 et 1989 are among the many publications concerning the artist.
