Biography

Born in Hungary in 1945, Gabor L. Nagy studied in Canada, where he graduated with a degree in regional planning from the University of Alberta in 1974. His interest in art led him to further his training through workshops and courses in design, drawing, and painting.

Nagy began painting seriously in 1968, and his work has evolved through watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and finally, oil painting. He views art as a way of life, a path toward which one must evolve. It is an accumulative body of knowledge with roots that are deeply imbedded in the past.

Fascinated by reflective surfaces, Nagy regularly visits water gardens in North America and Hawaii to research color and light in different locations and under various conditions. Photography is essential to his creative process, allowing him to capture fleeting moments in nature and then develop them through painting. Nagy’s work depicts universal themes and can be found around the world in private, public, and corporate collections.
